Can different marine electronics brands share data on one boat?
Often, yes. Compatible equipment may exchange navigation, depth, wind, heading, engine, AIS, and autopilot data through NMEA 2000, NMEA 0183, Ethernet, or manufacturer gateways. Feature access varies, so Accumar checks protocols, software versions, connector standards, power, and network architecture before recommending a mixed-brand design.
Why does my radar work but not overlay correctly on the chartplotter?
A radar overlay depends on accurate heading, position, timing, network communication, and display configuration. A missing or unstable heading sensor, incorrect data source, alignment error, software mismatch, or network fault can prevent the overlay from lining up correctly.
Why does a marine fish finder lose the bottom at speed?
Possible causes include transducer location, turbulent or aerated water, fouling, hull geometry, installation angle, frequency selection, gain settings, damaged cabling, electrical interference, or a transducer that is not matched to the display and operating profile.
Do you install and service retractable scanning sonar?
Yes. Accumar supports Furuno and Wesmar retractable scanning-sonar projects, including installation planning, hull-unit and deployment-equipment checks, controls, power, displays, network integration, and fault diagnosis. Hull work may require haul-out and boatyard coordination.
Can FLIR thermal cameras display on an existing multifunction display?
It depends on the camera, display, video format, network connection, and supported control protocol. Accumar verifies compatibility, power, cabling, video distribution, mounting location, and control requirements before installation or integration.
Can Starlink be integrated into the boat's existing network?
Yes, when the installed Starlink hardware and onboard network support the intended configuration. Planning includes antenna placement, weather-protected cable routing, power conversion, router or bypass configuration, Wi-Fi coverage, and separation from safety-critical navigation networks where appropriate.
How do you diagnose an NMEA 2000 network problem?
Diagnosis can include backbone layout, two-terminator verification, network voltage, voltage drop, shield and ground practices, connector condition, device discovery, source selection, PGN availability, software versions, gateway configuration, and isolation of the faulting device or cable segment.
