Frequently Asked Questions

How many underwater lights do I need?

Rule of thumb: 1 light per 15 feet of waterline for basic coverage, 1 per 10 feet for a dramatic show. A 30-foot boat typically uses 2–3 lights.

Surface mount vs through-hull — which is better?

Surface mount is easier to install (no hull penetration) and can be done in the water. Through-hull provides a cleaner flush look but requires haul-out and hull work. Both perform equally well.

Do underwater lights attract fish?

Yes. Blue and green wavelengths attract plankton, which draws bait fish, which attracts game fish. Many tournament anglers use underwater lights for night fishing.

What color light is best for fishing?

Green and blue are most effective for attracting bait fish. White also works well. RGBW lights give you the flexibility to switch between fishing colors and show colors.

How much power do underwater lights draw?

Ranges from 0.75A (Zambezi Mini) to 8A (Typhoon) at 12V. Most mid-range lights draw 2–5 amps. Always verify your boat's electrical capacity before installing.

Can I install underwater lights myself?

Surface mount lights are DIY-friendly — drill 3 holes, apply sealant, connect wires. Through-hull lights require professional installation with haul-out. We offer installation services.
